How long does it take?

Typically this can be between 6-12 months, although this depends on many factors including how many people work on the project, how knowledgeable they are, how large your organization is and whether you have decided to employ a consultant to work with you.

Ultimately you must demonstrate that your management systems is fully implemented and meets all the requirements of the appropriate standard. Normally, a certification body will expect to see evidence that the system has been in place for 3 months.

At the outset, as consultants we would recommend that you undertake a ‘Gap Analysis’ to understand where you already meet the requirements of your chosen Standard, and where there are gaps. From this, a project plan can be developed with a timed path to successful certification. This ensures that you
understand what is required, both in terms of resource and time.
