Does Brexit affect GDPR?
Will GDPR apply even after leaving the EU?
Businesses should not see Brexit as a means of avoiding compliance to the GDPR. It is generally accepted that after the UK leaves the EU, UK laws will nevertheless track the GDPR (i.e. by implementing legislation or a new UK law which effectively mirrors the GDPR). In other words, even if you are purely a UK company, or you are outside the UK and targeting UK consumers only, you should not ignore these changes and should seek compliance.
But what about customers who aren’t in the UK?
Even if your customers are not in the UK, it is likely that you still employ staff, and hold HR information on these staff in the UK. Therefore the requirements of GDPR will still apply to you.
